Like the rest of the group, her life has been carefully shaped and molded by the Directors - which include the death of her sister, and driving her mother away - to make sure she developed in a way that suited their interests. ☀ ( WORLD. )
Magical Hunter Heavenly Keiko takes place in the not-too-distant future of Japan, on an Earth indistinguishable from our own save for one crucial difference; it is the battleground for one group's fight against an immense alien threat to themselves, their planet, and all of humanity. Seven high school girls, each imbued with unique elemental powers and assigned animal companions as handlers, have been called upon and brought together to defeat this menace. It's a tale of adventure, heroic struggle, and above all... the bonds of friendship.
Or, as is eventually revealed, it's actually a cruel cosmic sham crafted solely for the purposes of entertaining other alien races. Selected during childhood by virtue of hair/eye color along with vague personality traits, these girls (dubbed Magical Hunters) are henceforth carefully molded until they resemble typical character tropes found in magical girl media. Their lives are purposefully pockmarked by trauma and loss in order to achieve this, with only one of them seemingly, blissfully free of personal grief. Unaware of the true nature of their battle, their roles, and even their animal handlers, the Magical Hunters cooperate to fight terrible "monsters" for the good of all. Like in most magical girl shows, they go about this apparently noble duty with a certain measure of secrecy; their families and friends, as well as society at large, are purposefully kept in the dark about their color-coded defenders. Both the Devouring and the Magical Hunters themselves appear to the normal human eye only as forces of nature, their battles typically attributed to things such as earthquakes and tsunamis. ☀ ( HISTORY. )
Sora was born the elder of twins to Tomohiko and Hikari Yamamoto, a lawyer and homemaker respectively in Sugikishi, Japan. Her early life was normal and uneventful – shaped by the warm love her parents expressed for her and her younger sister, Kaede, the twins wanted little but were given the world. Sora was a prankster and joker from an early age, delighting her family and the friends she made with ease. She always tried her best to make her parents proud and although she never took to schoolwork as brilliantly as her sister, she excelled in the athletics program with an almost gifted ease. Perhaps most importantly, spurred on by her mother’s stories of princesses and their knights of legends, Sora quickly developed a want to protect and help people in need. Whether it was standing up for kids on the playground being bullied, helping down track old lost pets or helping elderly ladies across the streets, her parents could be no happier for their eldest daughter.
But it was that protective nature that brought the Directors into her home. Seeing such a determination to do right, they quickly became interested by the prospect of breaking down that potential Sora held and rebuilding it into something in their own design.
As her life began to take shape, now molded by the Directors, the changes began small. It was not until the twin’s seventh birthday that the meddling began to truly change their lives. Her father was kept at work later and later, large sums of money began to vanish from their account and rumors of affairs began to be spoken of in harsh whispers that eventually reached her mother. The fighting followed, growing in number and volume as the days went by until the slamming of doors or breaking of dishes became a mantra to lure Sora and sister to sleep at night. As days turned to months, the two began to seek solace outside of their home whenever both parents happened to be home. It was a day like that, like so many others, which drove them out of their home and to the park near their home. They had been taken by the water from an early age and it was not strange for the children to be seen at the local pool the park housed. But despite being a hot day in the middle of summer, the girls were surprised (and delighted) to find they were the only two at the pool this day. Nevertheless, they donned their life vests and took to the water without a second thought.
It wasn’t until Sora left the water that the second phase of the Directors plan was initiated and while she watched, unable to move (the doctors would say it was shock) or even close her eyes as her sister was seemingly dragged underneath the water despite the life vest still secure around her. As per the Directors plan, Sora was made to watch as Kaede was kept underwater, thrashing and reaching out, until she went still. It wasn’t until it was far too late for any help that Sora was released, quickly overcome by uncontrollable sobbing and screaming until a jogger came across them.
Of course, as doctors later discovered, if the slow drowning had not taken Kaede’s life – they doubt much could have been done to help a small girl with so many bones (her legs, arms, ribs, spine) seemingly twisted in such ways that most of them had shattered into various fragments.
Despite counseling, her family could never pick up the pieces of their lives and glue them back together, no, if anything they were just broken more and more. Her once loving, warm mother became a distant shell of her former self. This further strained her parent’s already fragile marriage to the point it became so tightly twisted, there was nothing left for it to do but snap under the pressure. Now without a father, who had at least cared for his surviving child, Sora was left to fend for herself with a mother who just could not be reached. She did the best she could as a seven-year-old, living off convenience store food with the money her father had left them. The money did not last, of course, having only been enough to help them until her mother got a job… but the job never came and Sora could never bring herself to call her father and tell. Instead she became determined again, this time to protect her mother.
It was this admission to her mother that finally got through to Hikari in the worst of ways. Lashing out at her daughter both mentally and physically, tearing down any attempts Sora made to try and reach out to her. Although her mother had never outright blamed Sora for what had happened, she seemed to be making up for her months of silence with a vengeance. It seemed that the harder she tried, the worse her mother’s state became. It was around this time, one day hidden away in her backyard and hungry, when Xiu Lei – secretly one of the monsters that had ultimately taken her sister away and was ruining her mother’s views of her – a small orange hedgehog appeared. He claimed to be a friend sent to her in her time of need. Sora accepted him without a second thought, finding comfort in him that she had lost with her sister.
A few days shy of her eighth birthday, Hikari seemed to become lucid enough to pack her surviving daughter’s things into a suitcase and drive her to her father’s house. Although unknown to her at the time, this would be the last time Sora saw her mother and to this day, she does not know just where she went or what might have happened to her. Life with her father was easier and even though the distance never completely mended, Tomohiko at least took care of her and treated her as his child. Nevertheless, her father devoted himself to work and more often than not – Sora found she had to care for herself again. The only real constant in her life over the years was Xiu Lei, who despite all thoughts to the contrary, was very much real and very much still around.
By middle school, Sora was beginning to show signs of the girl she had once been. She began to gain new friends, play in sports (excelling highly in basketball and soccer) and joking around without that constant shadow hanging over her head. Her best friend at the time was a girl in her class by the name of Yukiko, a shy but very smart girl who found herself the victim of pranks and bullying. It was hard for Sora not to stand up for her, and soon the two girls soon found a number of common interests, growing closer as the school year continued on. It allowed, for a brief moment in time, for Sora to believe that everything might be okay. But with the presence of the Directors ever looming over her development, that was never truly meant to be and once again Sora found herself unable to do anything as her best friend was viciously struck by a car while they crossed the street.
Following Yukiko’s accident, Sora began to keep everyone around her an arm’s length away out of the fear of letting anyone get close again only. She was tried of being left to watch the fallout time and time again. She did not withdraw completely though, instead she still managed to keep up her cheerful and sunny personality while fighting to keep control on the emotions she had hidden away behind her smile.
On the arrival of her sixteenth birthday, Xiu reveled to her something she was destined for something much greater. She was destined to become a Magical Hunter, tasked with defending humanity and defeating the monster that threatened it on a daily basis. Sora was, of course, wary of such a task suddenly being placed on her shoulders – after all, when she had decided to protect others in the past (Kaede, her mother and Yukiko) it had all ended in such horrible ways. How could she possibly protect humanity from something so terrible then? But Xiu promised her the powers she would need to make those dreams a reality, powers she did not have before – the power to truly become like the knights she had dreamed of and admired in the stories of her youth. Convincing her that the reason those things happened was because she didn't have these powers and having them meant that she would never have to suffer as she had again.
And so, with the words needed to soothe her aching heart, she accepted the task without hesitation. Deciding that finally she could make up for the failures she had already stood by and watched happen.
.... Then some hideous shit happens and Sora dies before even more hideous shit is revealed. Weh.
☀ ( PERSONALITY. )
to be replaced by a proper personality section soon :(
▶ super cheerful and easy going but in reality, it's a front ▶ underneath it all she is utterly sad and hideously self-loathing ▶ cannot come to love herself at all and is an extremely lonely girl who never truly learned how to address her issues ▶ absolutely loves to be outdoors-- hiking, riding her bike, gardening and the like ▶ it's hard to get her upset or annoyed, she's more likely to roll with the punches than throw out her own ▶ very informal with her speech, gives nicknames to everyone by usually just shortening up their names in some way ▶ PUNGEON MASTER but for real, her puns are awful and you shouldn't put up with it ▶ she loves sports but has an EXTREME phobia of water ▶ actually rather smart under all the dumb jokes and puns ▶ is willing to and eventually does die for the people she cares about
☀ ( ABILITIES. )
By holding her magical key and calling out the transformation phrase: "Unlock the way to the temple of the earth!" Sora transforms and gains access to an array of fun abilities. She gains control of the element of earth, and her key splits and transforms into her preferred weapon: a katana and wakizashi. Her abilities and magical powers are as follows:
☀ ( PHYSICAL ENHANCEMENTS. )
↪ ( speed. ) » Increased speed, much higher than your average human but she is nevertheless one of the slowest girls on the team. If she pushes herself, she is capable of short burst of high speed similar to flash steps but she can only do this upwards to one or two times when absolutely needed. ↪ ( strength. ) » Increased strength, something that is insanely higher than what she has in her everyday civilian form. She is not the strongest Hunter, bested by Suzume and her berserker strength but Sora is close-ranged fighter and it shows with the hits she deals out with each swipe of her blade. Along with her power over earth, she is capable of uprooting trees and throwing much heavier objects without trouble. ↪ ( stamina. ) » Increased stamina, again Sora is a close-range fighter and sticks to the front lines often. As she sees herself as a line of defense between the monster and the other girls that work best at long range, she is capable of lasting through the toughest of fights without the need to stop for a breather. ↪ ( endurance. ) » Increased endurance, if her strength isn't surprising then her endurance would be. As Sora is a close-ranged fighter, she is built like a tank and meant to withstand numerous hits that come her way. When she's transformed, normal humans don't even phase her and she can withstand a number of attacks from monsters, fellow Magical Hunters, and other superpowered individuals without much trouble. ☀ ( MAGICAL ENHANCEMENTS. )
↪ ( healing. ) » Enhanced regeneration, something she is poor at best at. She can barely heal herself, let alone others but if she focuses she can heal most minor to moderate wounds. If she really focused then she might be capable of taking the edge of some less-fatal major wounds. ↪ ( jumping. ) » Sora can jump pretty high, switch directions mid-jump, double jump, or appear to hover mid-air for several seconds. Using her powers over earth, she can use it to launch herself much higher into the air if needed. ↪ ( shield. ) » She is capable of producing an orange shield to deflect physical and magical attacks. She can expand it to cover X number of people, but it begins to weaken if she spreads it out further. Sora is much better at shields than she is at healing, considering it her one magical specialty outside of her normal powers. ↪ ( prism shield. ) » When the Magical Hunters join their powers together, they are capable of creating a pretty awesome rainbow shield that is rather power and covers a wide area. Bad thing is, the girls need to all be in harmony with one another in order to actually pull it off. When they manage, it’s a sight to see as they can deflect and sometimes reflect most attacks that come their way.
☀ ( EARTH MANIPULATION. )
Sora has been granted the ability to control the element of earth, hurling rocks, creating fissures, sinkholes, mudslides or earthquakes. She can use any material or minerals from the earth and construct them into creations like walls or projectiles. When using her abilities, she does not need to call them out by name in order for them to work – but, calling them out amplifies their power. Unfortunately, it also leaves her open to attack.
↪ ( clamoring earth. ) » The soil itself begins to liquidize, slowing and drawing intended targets into its grasp. As the target sinks lower, the earth begins to shift and churn, around and around. As it does, the targets limbs begin to twist as it gets caught up within the heavy grasp of the thickening soil, breaking and tearing as it sinks deeper and deeper. Once the target is completely covered, the earth solidifies again – ending any chance of its escape. ↪ ( bedrock implosion. ) » Like setting a landmine, certain areas of the ground become sensitive to the pressure and vibrations above it. If the area is stepped on, it causes an explosion of pressure from underneath to occur and kicks up anything in the area. This can just include dirt, but also shrapnel of hard stone that can easily tear through a target. It’s an ability that can also be dangerous to her allies or other friendly targets so it is usually used when they are forced to a distance for one reason or another. ↪ ( dusty bellow. ) » Stomping her foot, Sora kicks up a duststorm that covers a wide area and obscures the sight of those around her. This is another ability that also affects her allies and is dangerous to use in cases where she does not warn before hard as it completes hides one another and so, any attack they might be preparing to use. ↪ ( ground scraping. ) » Sora creates duplicate weapons from the earth and stone to use as spares and projectiles against intended targets. The other Hunters are capable of using them for a short time as well before falling apart, but they are at their best with Sora. If she concentrates hard enough, she is also capable of using it to create life-like clones of herself to be used as a distraction against targets. As it is hard to pull off, she does not use it often since it leaves her vulnerable in the heat of things. ☀ ( UNISON ATTACKS. )
Sora is capable of harmonizing her elemental powers with the powers of another Magical Hunter, resulting in combination attacks far more powerful than any she can do alone. These attacks are difficult to learn, and difficult to pull off, with the same chance of interruption during the calling sequence.
♥ ( gaia's brilliance. ) » (keiko nakagawa) something cute and healy? ☄ ( magma fall. ) » (kotone sasaki) An earthquake and a geyser of magma. ϟ ( strike fracture. ) » (mayu kawano) Lightning strikes the grounds to create a chasm to trap foes, which then slams shut. ☁ (dust devil. ) » (suzume fujioka) A monsoon of dirt, dust and boulders. ❆ ( mire cascade. ) » (mitsuki ishikawa) A rushing mudslide covers the area. ★ ( terrestrial supernova. ) » (hoshi takeda) WHAT A MOUTH FULL OF AN ATTACK NAME, IT BETTER BE AWESOME
